Wolves set to spring
November 30, -0001

Timberview is coming off a tough loss in the first game of the season, and looks to rebound Friday against another team that had a tough first week, Arlington Lamar. The teams face off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cravens Field.

Why to Go: The Wolves have reason to believe that the first game was a bit of a fluke. Turnovers and an inability to convert in the red zone doomed Timberview, and much of that could be credited to inexperience. With a week under their belts, the young Wolves look to be much improved.

Who to Watch: The Timberview offense getting back into gear and keeping the pace of the game high.

"I think the tempo went fine (in game one). It's when you shoot yourself in the foot that you have problems," said Timberview coach Mark Walker. "When you get into the red zone and not score or kick a field goal, it hurts. You have got to finish and we have got to get that effort."

Many of the problems in the season opener can be credited to inexperience. But that inexperience can be fixed, Walker said.

"We are still gaining experience in a lot of key areas, and everything that went wrong in our first game is fixable," Walker said. "We are counting on these kids to get better every week and we are going to continue to evaluate as coaches. We just need to get that experience, a lot of them had the first Friday night jitters."

Lamar (0-1) goes into the game after a big effort from receiver Tracy Smith against South Grand Prairie. Smith caught three touchdown passes and threw for another in the 38-30 loss.

"I think that, overall, we match up well with them. This is a team you can't make a lot of mistakes on, or that receiver will take advantage," Walker said. "He is very good. We scheduled talented teams like this because we want to be ready for district. We have three playoff teams on our schedule, and we have got to prepare for the district schedule."

Overall, despite the opening loss to Irving MacArthur, Walker was pleased with the effort, especially for a team that is made up mostly of players that are just getting varsity level experience.

"It was a great effort, and I was proud, but there were just too many mistakes," Walker said. "We gave it a great effort on both sides of the ball, we just made too many mistakes."
