Farmers Insurance Game of the Week:
September 3, 2011

By David A. Amador

(Edcouch,Tx)- In the Farmers Insurance-District 42 Game of the Week, the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets (2-0) knocked off Rio Hondo (1-1) 34-13 at Benny Layton Sr. Stadium in Edcouch, Texas. Head coach Joe Solis is excited about the win because now he can prepare for their upcoming District 32-4A opener at winless Hidalgo on September 16th. “It’s always great to come out of district play without injuries and improvements,” says head coach Joe Solis of the Yellowjackets. Defensive end for the Jackets’ Luis Hernandez was the big playmaker for the night as he returned a fumble for a touchdown with 332 left in the third period. “That was pretty cool. Running 60-yards was great,” says Hernandez. He also sacked Rio Hondo quarterback Juan Puga three times. The Yellowjackets scored first with quarterback Eric Morales connecting with WR Mike Garcia for a 63-yard touchdown with 10:05 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt sailed wide. Jackets 6-0 over Rio Hondo. The Bobcats would answer right back a few plays later with WR Shawn O’Brian scoring on a 62-yard strike from Puga to tie the game at 6-6 at the 7:13 mark. The extra point attempt was no good. But, that was all the Bobcats could muster. Puga’s last touchdown score was a 29-yard pass to WR Victor Guzman. “This game will prepare us for district,” said Bobcat head coach Rocky James.
