Turnovers and Penalties Cripple Coyotes
September 11, 2015

THE COLONY Khalil Banks rushed for 288 yards and five touchdowns, leading The Colony to a 70-43 victory over Frisco Heritage in the opening of District 9-5A play. Banks rushed for most of his yards in the first half as The Colony (1-2, 1-0) built a 42-14 halftime lead. Teammate Josh Crow added 156 rushing yards on only four carries and quarterback Jemal Jones Jr. threw for 154 yards and two scoring passes as The Colony gained 635 total yards in the contest. After The Colony scored on their first possession, they capitalized on two Heritage fumbles, scoring after each turnover and ending the 1st quarter with a 21-0 lead. Nic McTear scored first for Heritage, grabbing a 42 yard touchdown pass from Amare Jones. After The Colony lost a fumble at the Heritage six yard line, Kene Nwangwu burst up the middle for a 94 yard scoring run, cutting the lead to 21-14, but it took The Colony just three plays to get on the scoreboard again as Banks ran 59 yards for his second touchdown of the game. After Jones Jr. hit Chris Green to increase the lead to 35-14, The Colony recovered a fumbled kickoff by Heritage (2-1, 0-1) and Banks scored on a one yard run on the last play of the first half. Amare Jones led a frantic comeback attempt in the second half, throwing for another touchdown and rushing for another, but big plays by The Colony offense allowed them to maintain a comfortable lead. Amare Jones finished with 144 passing yards and 87 on the ground. Nwangwu led Heritage with 138 rushing yards and McTear caught two touchdown passes.
