Memorial plays out a movie script to the final minute
San Antonio Express-News Share

You've seen this movie before. The inner-city team finds a way to win basketball games and rally a community. Then comes the big playoff moment, against a local power from the richer part of town. Pause it with a couple of seconds left. With the ball in the hands of the 5-foot-9 senior and the hardest-working player. With the kid taking a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. Snap back to reality, where the scene played out last week. More
Benavides targets another title
Corpus Christi Caller Times Share

The Benavides baseball team shared the District 32-A championship with two other teams last season. This year the Eagles want the title outright. It's a definite possibility considering the team returns nine starters and 13 lettermen. The Eagles tied Ben Bolt and Kingsville Academy for first place in the standings a year ago and finished 15-9 after losing to Runge in the opening round of the playoffs. Benavides lost only one starter from that squad, giving Wheeler plenty to work with. More

Before going into the playoffs, Lakeview had won five of its last six games by double digits. And now, after a two-point nail-biter against Lake Highlands last Tuesday, the Patriots have won by 11 and 28, finding their groove again. More

It was the first day teams could conduct after-school practices, and what Adamek saw left him with plenty of doubts. His Indians were too inexperienced. They had lost too many key parts from an undefeated district championship team. But none of those things mattered as Harlandale celebrated its historical 77-66 Class 4A regional quarterfinal victory against Laredo Nixon at Littleton Gym. More
